Numerous reports have been circulating on social media that the iPhone dictation system replaces the word ‘Trump’ with ‘racist’. One owner has posted a video of this happening on TikTok.
Reports that similar substitutions occur with words such as turd, stupid, transphobic, homophobic, blithering imbecile, felon and rapist have been made.
There is outrage among some conservative commentators in the US, although it’s not certain what they are complaining about. None have complained about accuracy.
An Apple spokesperson has said, “We are aware of an issue with the speech recognition”, although whether it is actually a bug or the AI system applying intelligence is to be decided.
