With less than 17 months to go the Tories are on a mission to find things that aren’t broken and fix them until they are. Now Rishi has a plan to fix social mobility and reduce the number of non-Tories at University.
Having started on wrecking Human Rights the Tories have found something to break that might to be to their benefit in future. If they could cut down the number of lefties getting into university and reduce social mobility so the best jobs are reserved for the children of their chums. He has said that universities are “full of people who don’t vote Tory”.
The Tories will change student loan funding to cut the state’s contribution from 44p in the pound to 19p from September. This will of course disproportionately disadvantage students from poor families. As poorer people are more inclined to be left leaning in their politics this will contribute to excluding non-Tory students from universities.
