Bloke who has never watched The Proms horrified over Sam Smith

The announcement that pop singer Sam Smith will perform during the BBC Proms has outraged a bloke. Apart from seeing a brief clip of the crowd singing Land of Hope and Glory ten years ago he has never seen The Proms.

This year the BBC Prom season will include Sam Smith performing an orchestral setting of his album In the Lonely Hour on the 2nd August 2024. This has enraged Stu Peedy (49) who accusses the BBC of being a woke shit hole of vice and destroying good old fashioned traditions.

Peedy last watched The Proms ten years ago when he saw the last ten minutes of the last night when they do that bit where everyone is waving flags and singing along to one of them old songs, but he can’t remember the name of it.

In a fit of apoplexy he raged, “Just no, the guy is a freak. It’s an absolute insult to the proms. I will never go to, or watch, The Proms again, if this happens. No respect for the proms. The BBC has its own pathetic agenda.”

Even from the earliest days the Proms season has included sections of popular music that was current at the time. The whole point of the Proms was to showcase the more popular side of orchestral music and to use popular music in an orchestral setting to appeal to the general public. In recent years this has included the Ibiza Prom, which started in 2015, Stormzy (2020), Paloma Faith (2014),
