Facebook user loses his sh#t over annoying app pop-up

Man reaches the end of his patience. Life has been blighted by this pop-up that keeps appearing.

Colin Ecktomey (43) has been a faithful Facebook user for about 25 years. He has been a great fan, using it to keep in touch with old school friends, colleagues from previous jobs and of course family members around the country. He has stayed with Facebook even when they messed it all up with the change to the new timeline layout in 2014.

Now he is losing his patience with the pop-up that keeps appearing inviting him to use the Facebook app. The first few dozen times he quite happily pressed Not Now on the pop-up. After a while he became much more vocal as he clicked to dismiss it. Coming out with choice comments such as, “No I fucking don’t want to install your shitty app”, “Fuck off and die!” and “Go the fuck away”.

When asked why he doesn’t want the app Ecktomey commented that it wasn’t actually faster and didn’t actually keep him up to date quicker. He was suspicious that the app was just a way of scraping more information about users. One of the principal uses of this additional information was to help companies target advertising better.

He was also concerned with other apps sharing information about him to the Facebook app. A very clear privacy issue. While the information about him that could be gleaned by Meta through the use of cookies and tracking from websites that shared cookie information with Meta was limited, the use of the app that scraped a lot of information about him was concerning.
