Someone suggested that insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results (Einstein). Anti-LGBTQ geniuses have done a coffee chain a massive favour by announcing a boycott. Perhaps they will eventually figure out that they are an irrelevant angry minority.
The coffee company Costa celebrated Pride month by adding a Pride travel mug to its range of merchandise. In addition Costa has emblazoned one of its vans with a trans mural that was originally created for it’s Brighton shop last year. Totally predictability various pundits and people aspiring to be relevant got their outrage on.
John Glen MP suggested Costa should stay out of politics like he has (last written question 2017 now just presents treasury reports). He suggested that Costa would be on the receiving end of a transphobic backlash. Anti-trans campaigner Maya Forstater attempted to make out the mural was celebrating self-harm, mainly in an attempt to attract attention.
Adding his voice to the howls of outrage was failed actor and politician Laurence Fox. Obviously he hadn’t learnt his lesson from when he tried to stir a boycott against the Grind coffee chain for their environmental stance.
In the face of all this posturing Costa have remained committed and put out the following statement;
We want everyone that interacts with us to experience the inclusive environment that we create, to encourage people to feel welcomed, free and unashamedly proud to be themselves.

Andre Walker of Talk TV really nailed his gammon flag to the mast by ripping up a Costa coffee mug on air. That really showed them.

The impact on Costa has been significant. An increase in share values over the past five days.

So far no sales figures are available, however the Costa customers have been aware of Costa’s support for LGBTQ over several years so are unlikely to be bothered by a bit of gammon throth. There have been no reports of reduced customer numbers. Although there has been a slight increase in visitors due to an influx of overweight middle-aged white men stealing coffee cups to video themselves ripping them up.
