Tesla sales slump: time to pick up a bargain swasticar?

The sales of swasticars have tanked like a Panzer across numerous US and European markets. The ones made in China likely to be effected by US tariffs.

Latest Tesla sales figures have shown a steep decline in swasticars leaving the forecourts. In Europe the January figures for the previous year showed a decline in sales in Spain (down 75.4%), Germany (down 59.5%), France (down 44%), Norway (down 38%), Sweden (down 38%), Netherlands (down 42%), and UK (down 12%).The largest US car market of California had a decline of swasticar sales of 12% in 2024.

While car sales and electric vehicle sales are slightly down this is typically by a few percent and do not explain the precipitous decline in Tesla sales.

In a recent survey of attitudes to Tesla and the effect of the connection to Elon Musk, 60% of respondents agreed that Musk’s reputation would put them off buying a Tesla. The survey was carried out by electrifying.com which caters for those interested in electric vehicles. They found that both current EV owners and those planning to make the switch to electric were influenced by Musk’s public profile. For 59% of each group admitted that Musk’s influence had become a decisive factor.

Against this background there have been significant price reductions especially on the Cybertruck and Model 3. The prices for used Tesla cars has pretty much collapsed. Don’t expect to get much for your Tesla on a trade-in.
