The much hyped Never Surrender Convoy 2023 was frankly embarrassing. This was organised by Republican candidate Trent Leisy in Colorado to demonstrate support for former president Trump. The convoy was to “roll across the land”. Might have filled a small car park.
The Colorado State Patrol, Colorado Springs police and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office were all aware of the event and stated in advance that they were not going to bother providing traffic control. The troopers stated, ‘no traffic impacts are anticipated that would require a presence by state troopers’.
It seems that they predicted correctly. At one point the video shot by one of the supporters shows about a dozen SUVs and a couple of saloon cars driving around a bend with BIG gaps between them. After a few minutes there is a very strong suspicion that some of the cars have already been past once, and again, and again. It is difficult to be certain but it seems likely that there were two dozen vehicles at most which circled round out of view of the camera and rejoined the convoy at the back.
Trent Leisy is the candidate who hopes to replace Republican Ken Buck in the upcoming election. His only position is as a Trump fanatic. He is hoping that is enough. He organised the Never Surrender Convoy along with Joe Oltmann (conspiracy theory fanboy) to galvanise support and express opposition to Trump being removed from the ballot in Colorado.
He claimed to have had lots of prominent speakers lined up. There is no footage available of the speakers, just a couple of stills inserted into a very sad video of the event. When selecting a still to screen grab the initial thought was to grab one with the fewest number of people in it for maximum effect, although on reflection grabbing the frame with the most people was sadder…
