The BBC have tied themselves in knots over the edit of a one hour incoherent ramble over a year ago.
In October 2021 the BBC Panorama programme broadcast an episode, Trump: A Second Chance? This episode is no longer available on BBC iPlayer, which is not a conspiracy.
Panorama episodes on iPlayer :- The BBC iPlayer is where people can watch live and archived BBC programmes. With a few exceptions Panorama episodes are only available for 12 months after transmission.
The episode included a segment from a long rambling speech which was focused on how the election was illegitimate and had been ‘stolen’. Prior to this the Trump team had been badgering various election boards with accusations of foul play. There were also accusations that electronic counting systems had been faulty. These accusations eventually ended up in expensive court cases.
The programme producers put together a montage of Trump sound bites to illustrate the general tone of the invective he was spewing out. The quotes which has caused the most outrage is , “We’re going to walk down to the Capitol and I’ll be there with you, and we fight. We fight like hell.” The two parts of this sentence were taken from different parts of Trump’s ramble. However, there is no denying that he finished with…
We fight. We fight like hell. And if you don’t fight like hell you’re not going to have a country anymore.
The only government business that was taking place that day was the vote ratification. What legitimate fighting was there to take place that day?
There were cutaways to crowd scenes during the edited version that for most people is a visual clue that editing has taken place. Although, the continuing of the low level music might have created a false sense of continuity.
The Guardian has created a useful comparison video…
Claims that the BBC was trying to influence the election are laughable. Most Americans cannot access BBC output. The fact that people are complaining about now, over a year after it was broadcast really highlights how serious it was taken.
Trump had been agitating his supporters for several week prior to January 6th 2021, and pressuring the Department of Justice to declare the election void. The lead up to the ceremony to ratify the results of the election was filled with Trump and his team inflaming his supporters with blatant lies and conspiracies.
No other United States Electoral College vote count ceremony has attracted much attention least of all an aggressive hostile mob intent on disrupting the process.
