Our gossip columnist delves into a Trans-Atlantic bromance. Can it survive the gulf between them? Does the age difference make it doomed to failure?
Hello my lovelies. Apparently I am now a gossip correspondent. Hmm. Well I do know Nigel a bit through my brother Jakey so that gives me a little insight. He is a funny little fellow. Jakey brought him round to our humble mansion once. He turned up looking like a bad caricature of a country gent from one of those sketch shows.
Farage has been spending the last couple of years trying to buddy up to Donald Trump. He liked to be in photographs with Trump during the campaign because he thought they were becoming besties. Trump enjoyed having Farage with him. He was less distracting and bouncy than Musk. Of course Farage was jealous of Musk. .
So much money. So much power. So much attention from people who mattered. What made it worse was that Musk was younger and better looking. What hope did Farage have? He couldn’t be with Trump all the time, and as Musk has a role in the new government, he and Trump spent more time together. Farage was beginning to feel like a gooseberry.
Then Farage met Musk at Mar-a-Lago just before Christmas and he thought that a bromance was on. We will probably never know if Musk offered to fund Farage or Reform UK Party Ltd, but Farage was hoping that their new friendship would result in some advantage.
Farage wandered back to the UK to try and reconnect to events there. Maybe it had all been nothing but a holiday bromance. He tried to muscle in on a farmer’s protest about inheritance tax, but they weren’t interested in having him speak. He tried to cosy up to a hunt, but they all thought he was ridiculous.
When Musk suggested that the criminal Tommy Robinson should be in Reform UK Party Ltd, Farage did not agree. Farage is smart enough to know that while the US is relaxed about criminals in politics, the UK is less tolerant. Farage knew that the bromance with Musk had hit the rocks when Musk started lashing out in a tantrum. Telling people that Farage was no good as a leader, although to be fair he is right.
While Farage still holds a candle for Trump, the distance and Trump becoming busier he has no time for Farage. When Farage saw Trump looking relaxed with the other old presidents at Jimmy Carter’s funeral it seemed that he was getting on well with these older blokes. Perhaps the age difference is against them.
