Delivery drivers reconnecting communities

Parcel delivery drivers have been recognised for their efforts in reconnecting communities. Neighbours speaking to each other for the first time while hunting for parcels.

For many the first time they have explored their neighbourhoods is after they have received a notification that their package has arrived. That chirpy message telling you your package has just been delivered comes as a delicious surprise. You have been sitting by the door all day waiting and no-one came.

Adventure time!

Delivery drivers have unanimously decided that just delivering packages to the intended address is just too obvious. Initially they would find creative places to hide the package on the property. Placing in recycling bins near bin collection day was always fun. Hidden under bushes, pushed into rabbit hutches and kicked high into a tree were other favourite places.

Now leaving them at random houses gives people the opportunity to wander around their neighbourhoods getting to know different streets. Knocking on random doors and chatting with neighbours is a great way to get to know people in the area.

In recognition of their efforts to strengthen communities, delivery drivers have been awarded a Strengthening Communities award.
