Tory MP Bob Stewart (Beckenham) was convicted of a racially aggravated public order offence. The list of his supporters on a crowd funding page shows people who are happy to support racist attacks. This includes a director of a wellbeing company built around inclusivity.
When Bob Stewart was attending an event hosted by the Bahraini Embassy he was challenged by Sayed Ahmed Alwadaei who shouted: “Bob Stewart, for how much did you sell yourself to the Bahraini regime?”. Sayed Ahmed Alwadaei, director of advocacy at the Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy, further challenged Stewart about how much money he had accepted from the Bahraini government. Stewart responded “Go away, I hate you. You make a lot of fuss. Go back to Bahrain.”. Unfortunately the exchange was recorded on video.
Following Stewart being charged with a racially aggravated public order offence some friends set up a crowd funding page to help cover any legal costs and fines. To date that has raised over £19,000. The MP was ordered to pay legal costs of £835, on top of a £600 fine. He resigned the Tory whip when he was charged and is standing down at the next election. He was found guilty on the 3rd November.
Of course his supporters up until the 3rd November 2023 could rightly say that he was innocent until proven guilty. However this funding page was set up on the 4th November after Stewart had been convicted so they are supporting a proven racist.
Supporters of racially aggravated public order offences
While the majority of people who donated to Stewart’s crowd funding for his legal costs have done so anonymously, there are some interesting names amongst those who dispensed with anonymity.
William Andrew Hughes
This generous supporter of racist activity generously donated a total of £930. Hughes is a builder from Sleaford and is likely to be a former army buddy of Bob Stewart. Hope he remembered to Gift Aid it.
Sir James Jervoise Scott
Do The Royal Forestry Society, Historic Houses Association and The Hollycombe Working Steam Museum know that they have a director so committed to supporting a racist that he stumped up £250 of his own money?
Tory MPs
Tory MP for Devizes, Danny Kruger, supported his racist colleague to the tune of £200. Vicky Ford (Chelmsford) donated £120. Lia Nici-Townend (Great Grimsby) donated £100 for racism. Most generous of the Tory MPs was Marco Longhi (Dudley North) who gave £250.
Colin McQuade
This keen supporter donated £100. Not sure how his director position with BuddyBoost Ltd which is “designed to be highly inclusive”, fits in with his support for the racist MP.
Charles McDowell
McDowell is part of the Conservative Party Treasury team and contributed £150.
Lord Blencathra
Was the honourable lord being stingy when he only donated £100?
Martin McGowan Scanlon
This director of G4S would certainly have known that Stewart had been found guilty when he donated £100?
