Farage plans to turn Wales in to an Industrial Revolution theme park.
Stuck in some fantasy 1960s industrial ‘golden age’ the stock broker from Kent with no knowledge of, or background in, industry whatsoever wants to reopen Welsh coal mines and start blast furnaces again. Despite the fact that one of the world’s leading manufacturers of steel, Tata, had closed the Port Talbot steel works because it was no longer viable. In the years leading up to the closure the steel works imported coal as the industry was no longer viable. The lack of viability of the coal mining industry was due to decades of falling demand as railways transitioned away from steam and power stations moved to gas fired generation.
To make coal mining viable again Wales will be turned into an early twentieth century theme park with steam engines pulling all the trains and rebuilding all the coal fired power stations, grinding poverty will be reintroduced and for good measure, tuberculosis and miner’s lung will be brought back.
Farage is convinced that young people would love to risk their lives and health working deep underground. He envisions himself as the local lord who would come to the miners socials once a year to praise their douty spirit.
