Woman fears she has become a toxic parody

Is regularly sharing ‘wine mommy’ memes just being funny or is it corrosive? Many find them lame and irritating. One woman has admitted sharing lots of these as they were ‘just a laugh ‘. She has been surprised at some critical comments.

Cindy spends a lot of her time on Social Media. She likes to look out for posts where she can post her collection of ‘wine mommy’ memes. Even on serious posts where some woman is sharing how she is struggling up goes one of the memes.

For women struggling with children with challenging behaviour, or have themselves got behavioural issues, distilling it down to a ‘humorous’ drinking-to-cope meme is at best patronising. Many comment that this sort of memes can dismiss or minimise what can be difficult circumstances for many.

She can not understand why so many do not appreciate the jokes. Surely everything is a bit better with a bit of a laugh. One woman responded to one of her memes by posting a link to an article that.highlighted issues around the wine mommy culture. Cindy really didn’t think she was toxic, but is now re-evaluating her memes.

A recovering alcoholic shares her thoughts on how these foster “the idea that tricks women into thinking alcoholism is not only a healthy coping mechanism; it’s also something to laugh about on social media”.
