When Fran Ticque agreed to be one of four bridesmaids for her lifelong friend she expected lots of fun activities and a great day. It all started off well. They looked at venues together, shopped for a wedding dress, even picked out bridesmaid’s dresses that weren’t revolting.
As the big day got nearer the bride-to-be became a little over the top when she insisted on specific lipstick and eye shadow colours. Some of the bridesmaids felt it was getting a bit much but went along with it because it was their friend’s special day. They began to realise they were on a slippery slope when their friend proclaimed that they all had to wear the same size shoes.
“That was totally bonkers. Of course we’ve got different size feet. I’m a 6, Chloe is an 8 and Kate has massive feet – think she’s a 9. She kept going on about a photo she had planned with all of us in a line lifting up our dresses to show a leg. She reckoned it would look terrible if we had different size shoes. She wouldn’t listen to sense”.
A few days later came the announcement that provoked mutiny. Fran explains what happened. She’d been catching up on Instagram when she noticed her friend had posted a load of selfies. Her friend had visited a beautician the previous day and had a lot done. “Something wasn’t right. I couldn’t figure out what it was, but she didn’t look right. Later in the day she asked us all to come round to her house that evening”.
They were still annoyed about the shoes but were still willing to support their friend. They were hoping that this get together was for the bride-to-be to tell them that she’d changed her mind about the shoes. They couldn’t have been more wrong.
She asked them what they thought of her make over; she certainly did look different. Fran eventually figured out what she’d found disconcerting. “You’ve had your eyebrows done”. The bride-to-be had shaved off her eyebrows and had them pencilled.
Chloe cautiously commented “that’s nice”. The bride-to-be gushed about how great it looked. It didn’t look good.
Then came the announcement they knew then was inevitable. She wanted us to all have our eyebrows shaved.
