When Burcu Yesilyurt was fined for pouring coffee down a drain at least one water company CEO snorted coffee out of his nose.
The £150 fine issued to Burcu Yesilyurt for emptying the dregs of her coffee down a drain has been decried as ridiculous. As she was about to board a bus she tipped the remains of a coffee down a drain rather than risk spilling it on the bus. She was confronted by three enforcement officers who issued a fine. The offence she had committed was stated as an offence under Environmental Protection Act 1990, which makes it an offence to dispose of waste in a way that could pollute land or water.
Water bosses thought this was hilarious in light of the thousands of litres of effluent that they put into the rivers every day.
