Homophobes and transphobes mourn the end of June

As the world moved inexorably on from June to July many feel that their life no longer has much purpose. Some just stand in bus shelters muttering to themselves, others stare at the sky willing rainbows to appear. The devastating consequences of the end of Pride Month for homophobes and transphobes.

For those special people whose purpose in life is to be angry Pride Month is their favourite time of year. They can take photos of themselves creepily hanging around the children’s clothing section holding up girls tops with unicorns or rainbows on them and angrily posting them on social media. They have easy targets for ranting when companies pronounce their support for Pride Month and get a sense of community as they try to get other angry people to join in.

But now what? Pride Month is over and they feel bereft. The angry orgy is over for another year and the world, rather than ending, has moved on. Now everybody else is talking about tennis, climate change and the implosion of right-wing parties around the world. The heady days of easy angergasms is over.

We spoke to a few to find out how this has affected them.

Karen Biggutt (48) lamented “It was so easy to find stuff to get angry about in June. Anything with a rainbow was a good for a rant. I even found an album by a band called Rainbow that were obviously in league with the devil so I called them out on a Twitter post about it. But now the fun has gone out of it”.

Brian Schwachkopf (52) sounded mournful as he told us “Pride Month was such a gas. So many people to wind up and they were so easy to spot online with the rainbow shit on their photos. Now I mostly hang out on street corners watching traffic lights. One day all the lights will come on at once and that would be a bit rainbow. A bit gay”.

We left Brian looking a bit tragic and looking wistfully forward to next Pride Month.
