five tips to save money with meat

Excruciata Reees-Mog shares invaluable tips to save money with meat to help those struggling with the cost of living crisis

Hello my lovelies. It’s Excruciata here to help you with your everyday problems. I know I have been away for a while and I hope you have all managed to cope without me. I have been very busy over seeing the re-decorating our apartment in Monaco.

Do not think that the cost of living crisis has not affected me. I have had to let various staff go as I would find them in tears worrying about how they were going to cope. It was very distressing for me to have crying people around me. They had to go.

So how to still eat meat without spending so much money. Losing so many staff has helped me with this.

Pheasant Previously I would get our gamekeeper to keep our parlour stocked with well hung birds. Save money by taking a shotgun out to the heath and shoot your own birds. Don’t forget to pluck, gut and dress your birds. No one likes to break their teeth on lead shot so make sure to remove all pellets. Let it hang in your well ventilated game store.

Lamb This is always treat. Buying good quality lamb bought one pack at a time is an expensive way to buy it. Better to buy a whole lamb that has been jointed and packed. Store it in your chest freezer.

Trout Definitely not an every day meal for any household. I have been appalled at the prices being charged in Waitrose for trout. We have a trout stream going through a friends farm and he lets my husband go fishing every once in a while. Ask among your friends to see if any of them have a trout stream.

Mackerel While we are talking about fish there is a great way to get cheap mackerel. When people go on mackerel fishing trips at the seaside they always come back with far too many fish that they don’t know what to do with. Offer to take some of their hands for a few pounds. Fresh mackerel is an absolute treat. Any you can’t eat can be smoked to preserve them.

Rabbit I know that most common people do not normally eat rabbit. I suspect that this is down to most having watched too many cartoons with cute fluffy rabbit characters, or had them as pets. Pathetic, maudlin, sentimentality. Rabbit is delicious. Same with pheasant don’t forget to gut, pluck and hang.

There you have it. Keeping meat in your diet can be affordable.
