Dear Excruciata: Why do people keep boring me with health issues

Sam Badance is a successful professional with a happy home life, but is not happy at work. People are plaguing him with intimate details of health problems. He would like some happy interactions for a change. Excruciata offers advice.

Hello my lovelies. I am told that people who work for a living do not always have full control over what goes on in their workplaces. This is something I really have not had experience of. If somebody is irritating me I dismiss them. I sacked my former assistant Sandra when she got pregnant. She became so annoying with her emotional outbursts. Really can not be doing with emotions while I am planning seating for the Hunt ball.

Back to Sam, our 30 something gentleman with similar irritations. He writes, “Every day people come into my office and tell me about their health problems. They want me to look down their throats or listen to them coughing. Sometimes they think there is a problem with their anus and I’m expected to stick a finger up there. It is really gross.” Poor dear. If my experience is anything to go by, the hoi poloi are not very clean at the best of times.

I can sympathise. I have no interest in the boils and puss that others are excuding. If somebody came into my Morning Room asking me to listen to them hacking up phlegm I would set the dogs on them.

Sam Badance claims to be a doctor. I must confess I have my doubts. I have never seen him about Harley Street and he certainly does not dress like a doctor. All the ones I’ve seen wear tailor.made suits with a bow tie or ordinary tie. Visiting a doctor while I’ll is considered very poor form. If he is a doctor I suggest that he prescribes training in good manners and decorum for them. If they are too ill to work then they are certainly too ill to be bothering a doctor.
