Tories prefers people not to have opinions

Looks like Gary Lineker has been upsetting Tories again. As the comments are not the supine supportive comments they are comfortable with it has upset them. Various MPs have been commenting that he shouldn’t have opinions.

Lineker had the temerity to sign a letter that has been published on the website of Camaign coalition Together With Refugees. The letter commented “Our government is still trying to banish people fleeing persecution to Rwanda despite the highest court in the land ruling the scheme unlawful.”

It was signed by numerous people including, actors Brian Cox and David Morrissey, Suzi Ruffell, Big Zuu and women’s rights campaigner Helen Pankhurst.

Jonathan Gullis MP Xcreted that it was “yet another breach of the BBC’s impartiality rules by Gary Lineker”. Gullis was not happy that Lineker needed to correct him, “Jonathan hasn’t read the new guidelines…. or, should I say, had someone read them to him?”

“focusing on football would be a better solution”

Grant Shapps also Xcreted, “I think he should stop meddling in these other areas,” he said. “It’s all very well signing letters… but I would suggest just focusing on football would be a better solution for him.”

Better solution in what way? Not highlighting Tory shortcomings? Not expressing opinions that don’t coincide with Tory think tank talking points?

So the opinions of British citizens are not welcome. Of course if the Tories actually listened to their constituents they wouldn’t be faffing about with

Lineker has upset Tories before when he called out Suella Braverman for the nature of her rhetoric when ranting about immigration. He accused her of using rhetoric reminiscent of 1930s Germany.

It is not only high profile people that Tories don’t like expressing opinions. One Welsh constituent wrote to his MP only to have a letter back telling him that he was “talking out of his arsehole”. Guto Bebb was definitely born to dump down on his constituents. He stepped down in 2019 concerned that the Tories were not being obnoxious enough.
