In this time of great need Starmer is ready to do his bit to help struggling tech bros who are down to their last few billions because of Trump f#cking up the stock markets.
This last week has been very hard on many, especially the multi-billionaires heading tech companies. Close friends of Trump have seen large amounts of money wiped from their stock values by the carnage brought on by … err… Trump. They have been forced to scrimp and save to get by from day to day.
For the struggling tech bros there is a light shining in the long dark night of despair. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is planning to throw them a lifeline.
Starmer is planning to offer to do away with the Digital Services Tax levied on profits made by larger tech companies in the UK. The tax that was introduced by the Conservatives to try and redress the issue of multi-national paying very little tax on the massive profits that they make.
This levy was introduced by the Conservatives and targeted at “large multi-national enterprises with revenue derived from the provision of a social media service, a search engine or an online marketplace to UK users”. It was aimed at companies with revenue greater than £500 million per year. Companies such as Amazon, Facebook and Google have been affected.
This onerous tax is projected by the HMRC to be as much as £515m by the end of the financial year ending in 2025. Half a billion pounds may not seem very much to most people, but it could buy a yatch for a needy billionaire. A vital lifeline for a struggling billionaire. Now is not the time to quibble over who was responsible for their dire situation. Now is the time to get behind Starmer and help him to end this suffering.
