Those woke teeth just need teeth to toughen up.
Everybodies favourite wingnut plans to tell the CDC not to advise fluoridation of drinking water. He’ll do this as soon as he can find anyone left working at the CDC. So far he has received bounce-backs on all the email addresses he has tried, all saying that the recipient is no longer working. He is also calling on all states to remove fluoride from drinking water.
In wingnut world fluoridation is a leftist woke strategy to force feed industrial waste into Americans to weaken the population with cancer, arthritis and thyroid disease. They totally fail to understand that in many areas fluoride occurs naturally in the water, as high as 4mg/litre. Many bottled waters from such sources will also contain fluoride with the average being 2.4mg/litre. These are much higher levels than advised by CDC.
“On January 20, the Trump White House will advise all U.S. water systems to remove fluoride from public water,” Kennedy wrote. “Fluoride is an industrial waste associated with arthritis, bone fractures, bone cancer, IQ loss, neurodevelopmental disorders, and thyroid disease. President @realDonaldTrump and First Lady @MELANIATRUMP want to Make America Healthy Again.”
To some people extent he is right. Fluorosilicic acid (FSA) is a by-product of fertiliser production. Toxic fluoride gases used to be pumped into the atmosphere from fertiliser factories in Florida until people started complaining in the 1960s. Companies were forced to capture it and convert it to the less dangerous, but still toxic, form FSA. Perhaps if is this history that frightens some people.
It has long been known that including fluoride in drinking water is very beneficial to teeth. The enamel covering the teeth becomes much stronger and more resistant to decay. The CDC, in line with most other health authorities, stipulate that the concentration of fluoride should not exceed 0.7mg/litre. Health professionals are aware of the risks of over exposure to fluoride, which is why they take great care over their recommendations. Over exposure can lead to conditions such as skeletal fluorosis. This can lead to weakened bones in older people, which is why the level of fluoride is stipulated at the level it is.
Cancer
There have been numerous studies in various countries over the decades. There is no conclusive evidence of a link between fluoride in drinking water and cancers of any form.
The University of York did an analysis of the available research for the National Health Service. They concluded that, “Overall, no clear association between water fluoridation and incidence or mortality of bone cancers, thyroid cancer, or all cancers was found.” They did comment that, “Given the level of interest surrounding the issue of public water fluoridation, it is surprising to find that little high quality research has been undertaken”. Further studies have been done since then and there is still no evidence.
IQ
There have been studies that link high levels of fluoride in water to diminished intelligence. A study that is often cited, school children from different parts of India where the water naturally has different levels of fluoride were compared. Two of the areas chosen had fluoride levels higher than is permitted in most countries including the USA. This study did show that in areas with medium levels of fluoride in the water, about twice the limit in USA, the IQ was found to be higher than in areas with low levels of fluoride. The area that had highest levels of fluoride, four times the US limit, had diminished IQ. All this demonstrates is that the current permitted level is safe.
A similar and more recent study of children in China exposed to varying levels of fluoride occurring naturally in drinking water showed very similar results.
Neurodevelopmental disorders
Despite many studies there has been no conclusive evidence to link fluoride in water at the recommended level to conditions such as ADHD and autism spectrum disorders.
Studies are repeated across the globe looking at different facets of human health and there will certainly be more.
