Screenshot of extortion offer on Incognito Market

Are you a user of the dark web Incognito Market? Ha ha ha ha ha

Many people people who have wanted to buy and sell illegal goods, especially drugs, have gone to the Incognito Market on the dark web. Surprisingly it is run by criminals who have no scruples. All sellers on the market are now being extorted. If they don’t pay all the details of their transactions and communications will be made publicly available.

“We got one final little nasty surprise for y’all,”

It should not be a surprise to anyone that the people running a market for illegal goods are criminals. Apparently they lied to the users about all communications and transactions being encrypted. They also lied about messages having expiry dates.

“We have accumulated a list of private messages, transaction info and order details over the years. You’ll be surprised at the number of people that relied on our ‘auto-encrypt’ functionality. And by the way, your messages and transaction IDs were never actually deleted after the ‘expiry’”

The message on their sites confirms that they are extorting their vendors. Pay up or all the data they have for each vendor will be made public. They offer various payment levels from $100 to $20k based on various vendor levels, which is presumably based on the value of transactions. They even offer a favourable price for early payment of the extortion offer. Prices will rise on the 1st April.

They also have a handy page that shows which vendors have paid up and which haven’t. Of course these are criminals so who knows how truthful it is.

This follows on from Incognito Market blocking access to buyer and seller accounts to withdraw funds a few days ago. How dare criminals behave like that! It is thought that they could have grabbed millions of dollars.

So the dilemma. If people do pay can they trust Incognito Market to keep their word? Even if they do pay, willl they come back for a second grab?
