Maccabi fans secretly pleased about not going to Birmingham

Who could blame them. Grey, desolate and streets piled with rubbish. At least Amsterdam had nice canals.

When the fixture against Aston Villa was announced the Maccabi fans hadn’t realised that the Aston Villa stadium was in Birmingham. Stoically they resigned themselves to going as they had already purchased tickets and booked flights. They could not cancel the tickets and bookings without losing money.

When the news of the safety assessment for the match next month came through Maccabi fans were jubilant. With the match cancelled on safety grounds they had a good chance of getting their money back on tickets and travel insurance. Happy days.

They are secretly concerned about the intervention from the British government. Hopefully the wise people on the safety panel will stick to their original assessment.
