Sir Laurie Magnus has not been heard of since January. There’s been no ransom note and no resignation letter. There is talk of a search party.
The last time he was heard of was in January 2023 when he produced a report about Nadhim Zahawi. While the possibility that nothing unethical has occurred in the Tory party since then, political experts think that is unlikely.
Various people have tried to contact him but no-one can remember his email address or telephone number. Attempts have been made to find his office, however nobody knows where it is, and there are doubts that he was ever assigned one. Enquiries as to whether he is in any WhatsApp groups have drawn a blank.
He was last seen with Dominic Raab who seemed to be showing him the inside of a broom cupboard.
His wife was contacted and she causually suggested, “He’ll turn up somewhere. He always does”.
In the meantime there are concerns that he is trapped somewhere. The Speaker has asked the Serjeant at Arms to do a search of the building. He commented “it could take a few months but if he is here we’ll find him”.
