A cut price copy of the Israeli missile defence system has been proposed by the Tories. Say hello to the Iron Gazebo.
The Conservatives have pledged to invest £10bn in a system to defend Britain against long-range missiles and drones. This is a fraction of the cost of the Israeli Iron Dome system which covers a country that is about the size of Wales.
The Conservatives have said that the “Iron Gazebo” would offer the UK an integrated network of radar, command and control systems, as well as interceptor missiles.
The Tories initially said the system would be “in essence a British ‘Iron Dome'”, however party leader Kemi Badenoch drew back from the comparison in broadcast interviews. She likened it to more of a gazebo with really sturdy guy ropes.
