Millenial budgeting, avocados are necessities

Recent surveys have upended the previous notions of what are necessary items for millenials. Ever wondered why high streets are filling up with vape shops, barbers and charity shops? It’s milleniomics baby.

For years boomer commentators and politicians have been criticising millenial and GenZer spending habits. When millemials have complained about being unable to buy houses these commentators have missed the obvious point that the cost of houses relative to income has doubled since the 1970s. Instead they have focussed on critising millemial spending habits, that they waste their money on avodaos and computer games. All non-neccesities according to boomers. Mostly this is just jealousy as the only avocado they had in their lives was the revolting coloured bathroom suite that the edgy family in the street had.

Avocados are relatively cheaper than in 1995 when they were 50p each. This is the equivalent to £1.32 today due to inflation. The average price in the shops today is £0.94 (ONS). So while avocados have come down in relative cost,, house prices s have gone up.

The boomers are irritated because they know that millemials and GenZers are making smarter choices and have more opportunities than they did. Avocados are a good source of fiber, and contain more fat (mostly monounsaturated 67%) than carbohydrate, so are popular on lower-carbohydrate diets such as with diabetes. The lower relative cost and nutritional value makes them a smart choice.

Mainly because millennials haven’t been spending what money they have in the way that the older folk think they should they get criticisd. Rather than spending all their money on booze, fags and getting a car as soon as they can, young adults are more thoughtful. Avocados are definitely a smart choice making them an essential.

Boomers like to kid themselves that they were smarter at that age, but that is the power of 20-20 delusional hind sight. If you remember the 70s and 80s there were loads of pubs everywhere. That’s because everyone was getting plastered. Remember loads of nightclubs and raves? Ridiculously priced watered down drinks? Sounds like there was some very sound economic choices being made, by the night club owners. A millemial or GenZer is more likely to savour a craft beer for an hour, buy artisan cheese from a local producer and locally smoked ham. A significant amount of their income goes into start-ups created by fellow millemials and GenZers.

As millenials and GenZers like to look after their appearance there is an obvious need for more barbers. Many will prefer to wear used clothes to reduce environmental impact which is one of the driving factors driving the need for more charity shops.
