With the revelation that Clarence Thomas had received over $4 million in gifts between 2004 and 2023, while the the other 17 justices over that time racked up about $3 million between them. There are calls for equity.
Pressure group Fix The Courts have sifted through various reports of all the declared gifts received by current and previous Supreme Court justices between 2004 and 2023. The total comes to a staggering $6,592,657. Of that $2,993,036 is split between 17 justices. The remaining $3,599,621 is what Justice Thomas is believed to have received in gifts and donations.
The other justices are believed to be unhappy at the imbalance and are calling for equity. They want Harlan Crow and others to spread their gift giving more evenly.
This comes at a time when Supreme Court justices are suffering hardship and are in need of handouts just to make ends meet.
Gifts received include yacht trips to Russia, the Greek Isles and Indonesia, hunting trips with hunting lodge accommodation and flights, honorary memberships at various golf, tennis and social clubs, tickets for Topridge and Bohemian Grove, as well as free tickets to Dallas Cowboys and Florida Panthers games, some questionable reimbursements for private plane flights, gift baskets, personalized Louisville Slugger bats, silver julep cups, prizes such as the Berggruen Prize which is worth $1 million,
