The celebrated actor announced that she was taking a break from acting for a while. What she did not announce to the media was that she was taking time out to work on another career unrelated to films and acting. It is certainly a surprise move.
Robbie has had a rollercoaster few years culminating in the phenomenally successful Barbie film. She was both a producer working to get it made from 2018, and starred as Barbie. It is the 14th highest grossing film of all time (that seems like an unfair comment – it was okay), the highest grossing comedy ever and receiving various awards including two Golden Globes including one for best original song.
While Robbie received award nominations for the Golden Globe and she didn’t win anything. This is perhaps what is behind her change of direction.
She has exclusively revealed that she is taking up woodwork and carpentry. “Judging by what I’m paying guys to do stuff around my house there must be a lot of money in it”. Robbie is proud of her matching sets of hand and power tools.
Are they pink though?
“Don’t be a dork. Who makes pink tools?”
“Well there is the Pink range by Hi-Spec which…”
“Well I haven’t okay? That would just be lame. I’m an actor who played a character. It doesn’t define me”
“I was hoping to slip in an advert to get commission…”
“Anyway, I’m pretty good at dovetail joints now. I’ve also got some nice bits of teak that I’m going to have a go at turning when my lathe arrives”.
“You are doing wood turning as well? That is impressive”.
“Well I have a talented guy who is going to tutor me”.
So there you have it. A radical change of life for Margot Robbie.
