Having a wood burner in your house gives that off-grid chic without going to the hassle of actually living off grid. Edginess for the apathetic.

With channeling that Lumbersexual groove it is important to not only have a lumberjack shirt, boots and beard, you have to have some wood in your life. Bart Connolly (27) explained that having a wood pile in the corner of the living room was a great part of the look, but more importantly there must be something to do with the wood. That is partly why the wood burner in the living room was important
“I want to look as if I have disdain for the mundane and ordinary, and to look as if I could cope with anything. That is why the beard is very important”.
Bart (graphic designer) explained that gas fired central heating is just too uncool. When I pointed out his was set to come on at 7am he conceded that it was nippy in the mornings. The important thing was that he could do without it if he chose to.
When asked if he collected and cut his own wood he gave the look of disdain reserved for ordinary people stuck in the mindset of just being too obvious. “I get mine sent by a company in London who specialises in sourcing artisan wood from woodsmen in rural Spain. They are my brothers and I am supporting them”.
What about wood burners being much more polluting than gas or electric heating? “That is so irrelevant. I am continuing an artisan tradition of independent thinking”.
