Tories who quite happily voted for Truss who then crashed the economy have voted that they think Islam is a threat to the country. Oblivious to the real damage caused to the economy and severe impacts on mortgage holders and house buyers, they respond to the dog whistles.
The Tories are giving ‘woke is destroying the country’ a rest at the moment and focussing on Islam as their latest bogeman. 58% of Tories polled agree that Islam is a threat to the British way of life. Following on from the Lee Anderson islamphobic outburst and the support he has had for his views it is not surprising that Tory islamphobes feel emboldened.
Much like there isn’t any evidence that woke is doing any actual damage, there is no evidence that Islam is destroying the country. True that people are calling for right-wingers to be less offensive, and it is also true that many, not just Islamic people, are protesting against the genocide in Israel, but then people do tend to protest against that sort of thing.
The people who thought that Truss was a good idea seem oblivious to the damage that she did to the country, and the damage done by 14 years of Conservative government, but sure the Islamic people are the big threat. We can blame them for the rising cost of living. Rising profits of utilities while many are struggling on incomes that are falling behind the cost of living. The disintegration of the nation’s infrastructure. The collapse of the care system. The loss of local council services due to chronic underfunding.
Those pesky Muslims have a lot to answer for. They are bound to suffer at the elections for the havoc they have created in the country.
