Nailon is currently Director of news at the Nine Network in Melbourne. He is an experienced journalist and media executive who has worked for nearly 20 years with Australian Nine Network to produce news and current affairs programmes.
If he knew anything about journalism he would know that people would start asking questions after a news programme he is responsible for used a ‘sexed up’ picture of an Australian female MP in a news item. He came out with an excuse that an automated bit of AI in Adobe Photoshop had made the alterations.
As is common practice, the image was resized to fit our specs. During that process, the automation by Photoshop created an image that was not consistent with the original. ~Hugh Nailon

In a news item on 29th January a picture of Georgie Purcell was used. This had been altered to enlarge her breasts and alter a top she was wearing to show exposed midriff. In an X post Georgie Purcell complained about the sexist treatment. She has highlighted that it was another example of discrimination and barriers facing women in politics.
The excuse that this has been done by some automated AI process was disputed by Adobe who make Photoshop. A spokesperson told media that “Any changes to this image would have required human intervention and approval”.
Purcell has accepted the apology given by the station even though she is not convinced by the explanation.
