Scientists have found the human clitoris and learnt something

Seems like the last time anyone looked the clitoris was located in cows. In a ground breaking study, humans have been found to have clitorises, or is it clitorii?

In the 1970s intrepid explorers Thomas and Thea Lowry set out to find the then mythical clitoris. After searching high and low, mostly low, they found one in a cow. In good scientific tradition, when they found it they stuck it in preservative and chopped it up. They then counted how many nerve endings there are, 8000, and that became the official figure for how many nerves women would have if they had a clitoris. That’s fair enough. If women had a clitoris they are hardly likely to let some scientists cut it off.

Could gyneacologists have helped with this? It seems unlikely if the text books are to go by. According to some books the only part of the clitoris that is outside the body is the glans. Their favourite text book “Williams Gynecology”, devotes one paragraph to the clitoris.

In a ground breaking study a researcher in Oregon has found that women have a clitoris. Using women undergoing phalloplasty (forming a penis-like structure) Dr. Blair Peters was able to estimate the number of nerve endings, 10,000, and finally provide a location for the clitoris. He has even given a What3Words locator – there-not-there.
