Council introduces Dudley residents to cycling

200 years after the invention of bicycles, Dudley is now ready to embrace this new technology. Councillor Body announced that as “Dudley borough has an obesity epidemic and one strand to the complex solution has been ignored, cycling! I think a number of Dudley residents could benefit from the benefits that cycling brings”

Such a visionary move required careful planning. The plan required the development of a cycle path for Dudley residents to get familiar with the idea of cycling. Consultation with a team of sports psychologists came up with the insight that too long a cycle path would prove intimidating to the cycling novices of Dudley.

The communities of Cradley Heath and Wollescote now have one cycle lane which is 60 metres long.

Councillor Body went on to say “Cradley and Wollescote have many streets, especially main linking roads that could be quite cheaply narrowed by installing a cycle lane. That would assist with traffic calming, a healthier lifestyle and a cleaner environment.”

It is believed that Councillor Shaz Saleem, cabinet member for highways and public realm is planning a 30m extension over the next 5 years.

Dudley is blessed with visionary Councillors who will transform the town.
