This year’s variation on ‘they are cancelling Christmas’ is the names of the fake trees sold in the Christmas section of Tesco and other stores.
For decades the various fake Christmas trees sold in supermarkets and other outlets have had lots of different names. It helps to identify the different products for shoppers, shelf stackers, warehouse staff and anyone involved in arranging for stock.
The clue that they are Christmas trees is their location in aisles filled with tinsel, baubles and holly wreaths. Unfortunately the people who shout at hotels are not the brightest and got confused. Because a few of the boxes did not have ‘Christmas’ printed on them they thought that the word Christmas had been cancelled. Bless. Must be so hard for them being that dense.
Fun fact
The tradition of putting up a Christmas tree in houses was introduced into Britain by a German – Prince Albert. The first Christmas tree in Britain was put up in the Queen’s Lodge at Windsor, in December 1800.
