Stick migrants in barracks – no not those ones!

Calls for migrants to be moved from hotels to army camps have been heeded, but some folk still are not happy.

There have been highly vocal calls from protesters and some politicians to remove migrants awaiting processing from hotels. A popular option has been to move them to army bases. The government have been identifying suitable army accommodation for this purpose. One is the Cameron Barracks on the outskirts of Inverness.

The Home Office informed the Highland Council of the plan to move up to 300 migrants to the 140-year-old army recruitment base, which had previously been used to house Afghan families, on the 10th October. The announcement was made public on 27th October The announced plan was to house them there for up to a year.

The people who like shouting at hotels have been shouting about not using those barracks.
