Some US corporations are celebrating that they can their ditch their DEI initiatives and get back to treating their employees like shit and discriminating as much as they like. Now you can tell which of them actually cared.
The aggressive stance of right-wing activists in attacking the many companies that have Diversity, Equality and Inclusivity programmes has caused many companies to curtail or abandon these initiatives. Some have followed the lead of Trump’s aggressive cancellation of DEI activities in Federal authorities.
Corporations and companies that have leapt at the opportunity to ditch DEI include Target, Meta, Amazon, McDonalds, Walmart, Ford, Lowe’s, Harley-Davidson, Brown-Forman (Jack Daniels, Fords Gin, Old Forester, Slane Irish Whiskey, Glenglassaugh and others), John Deere and Tractor Supply. There are many other who never cared about treating their staff equitably.
On a positive note up to 80% of are committed to retaining DEI. Some organisations have been vocal about their commitment to DEI. These include Goldman Sachs, Costco and JPMorgan Chase & Co. Most organisations recognise that both their staff and shareholders are diverse groups of people, and that continuing to pursue equity and tolerance is good business.
If you are ever in any doubt how much Jeff Bezos hates Amazon workers, take a look at what is happening in Québec. Rather than allowing one warehouse in Laval with 300., staff to unionise he is closing ALL warehouses and logistics centres in Québec. Around 2000 people will lose their jobs. Of course Amazon will not say it is a punitive measure to send a signal to any staff trying to unionise. Heaven forbid that one of the richest men on the planet should run the risk of losing a miniscule fraction of his wealth.
