With the announcement that Gary Lineker is stepping back from presenting MOTD, and Ian Wright has stepped down in support there hasn’t been much time to arrange substitutes that will be acceptable to Tories.
Gary Lineker’s post on Twitter that likened Sewer Braverman’s language surrounding immigrants on boats as similar to that used in 1930s Germany caused a lot of upset. Few seem to find anything factually incorrect, but lots of Tories are just annoyed.
“This is just an immeasurably cruel policy directed at the most vulnerable people in language that is not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the ’30s.”
Following a meeting with BBC executives he will be off air untill he will agree to BBC rules on impartiality. Co-host Ian Wright has announced he won’t be taking part in the programme out of “solidarity”.
Less than 24 hours to go to find hosts that will not upset the delicate sensibilities of the right-wing.
Favourite that have been announced are…
Jacob Rees-Mogg commenting on croquet.
Sewer Braverman presenting sail boat racing.
Michael Gove commentating on slime fighting.
Boris Johnson just hurling things in the way
Dominic Raab just to shout at everyone and rip up the scripts.
It’ll be a great show.
