In the undergrowth of the denial landscape that the right wing have wrapped around themselves there is one creature whose very presence will cause them to leave nasty stains in their pants. They puff and preen when in their dingy little echo chamber, but the harsh light that this monster brings when it roars undeniable facts that don’t fit their delusions will cause them to squeel ‘unfair’. This monster is of course David Attenborough.
The last episode of the new BBC six part wildlife series Wild Isles, will not be broadcast. It will instead be sent stright to iPlayer for viewers to watch. This is in order to prevent upsetting the right wing.
This series, presented by veteran wildlife programme maker David Attenborough, will focus on many aspects of the Brirish wildlife and environment. The same production values that were a hallmark of his previous series are brought to focus on nature in Britain. The series is part funded by nature charities the WWF and RSPB. The RSPB have been particularly invovled in the programme by helping to fact check the scripts.
Talking about the last episode BBC insiders told The Guardian that the BBC “fears its themes of the destruction of nature would risk a backlash from Tory politicians and the rightwing press”.
Caroline Lucas of the Green Party commented that “BBC bosses must not be cowed by antagonistic, culture war-stoking government ministers, putting populist and petty political games above delivering serious action to protect and restore our natural world. This episode simply must be televised.”
The first episode will be avilable on TV on Sunday 12th March at 7pm
Episodes are already available on iPlayer
