The forecast alerting people of UK temperatures up to 34C has set an angry man ranting on social media.
Gary Baldey (58) gets angry very easily. He has been known to shout at clouds and wave his fists at traffic lights. He does not understand that being informed of potential high temperatures is useful information for some people. People who are involved in outdoor activities might use that information to perhaps ensure there is plenty of water available.
Because he is not very clever he goes on to social media and looks for news channels that mention the predicted hot weather and post comments such as “Ohhh Nooo it’s summer again !”, “Heat alert, what a load of crap”, “Summer is warm, surprise!” and similar comments.
Of course Gary was one of those children who chewed crayons through school rather than grasp the basics of how to understand science and analyse data. For instance he could seek out data about the average UK temperatures in June to compare with the temperatures being experienced now. For instance, weather data collected from 1991 to 2020 have a maximum June temperature of 21C , which is quite a bit lower than the current 2025 maximum of 33.2C. It’s also worth being aware that the 1976 heatwave started 23rd June and the hottest day was in July with a temperature of 35.9C . So heatwaves are gradually starting earlier.
